FAQ

1
How will my instrument & bow arrive?
The instrument will arrive set up and ready to play! We will put extra packing materials around the bridge, behind the fingerboard and tail piece to prevent them from moving or collapsing. The strings will be slightly tuned down at the time of shipping. Your bow will need to be rosined. Without rosin, it will make no sound. When you first use the rosin, you will need to scrub with it on the hair of the bow until the white dust rubs off onto the bow. We suggest using small back and forth movements to begin with.
2
Why are there different string options?
When the instruments arrive at our warehouse, the factory ships them with basic steel strings. Some teachers and instrumentalists are very particular about what kind of string is on an instrument. The brand of string will change the sound of an instrument. Our company only offers two different upgraded brands to choose from: Dominant and Prelude. If the order has upgraded strings, they will be included in your case.
3
Can I purchase additional accessories?
Yes! All of our accessories can be purchased separately.
4
Why are you only selling instrument packages?
The staff who started Guardian Strings had parents who were not musicians. It can be very difficult as a parent to know what is needed and what isn’t without the help of a teacher or a fellow string player. The basic packages were designed to have what a beginner string student will need to be set up for success. Our All-Star packages were designed to have upgraded accessories. If you find that you don’t need some of the accessories in our packages, please consider donating them to a local school music program.
5
Can other stores or companies sell Guardian Strings?
No. At this point, we are the only retailer that sells our brand. Our instruments are made to the specifications and use the materials and woods that we prefer.
6
How do you describe the sound of your instruments?
Our string instruments resonate very well. They have a quality sound in higher positions. They tend to have a louder sound than most beginner instruments.
7
How do you know what size instrument you need?
This is teacher dependent. We recommend that you order the size instrument your teacher has measured the student at. If you don’t have a recommended size, then you can use this general guide. We prefer not to use age to determine what size instrument is appropriate as not all students grow at the same rate.
To measure Violin & Viola, hold out the left arm at a 90 degree angle and face the palm up. Take a tape measure or yard stick and measure the distance from the neck down to the end of the left wrist. For beginners, it is always better to have an instrument a little too small than too large.
